Solutions To Fix My Computer
More than likely, if you are visiting this page, then you have been looking for tips on how to fix my computer. There are plenty of resources on the internet that provide tips and answers to questions like how can I fix my PC. Here at computerfreezes.net, we cover a wide range of topics on how to fix many different types of computer problems.
Let’s take a little closer look at some common reasons that cause computer problems.
Adware Removal And Spyware Removal
Adware and spyware is typically not meant to steal any personal information from your computer, but it is normally meant to just do things to your computer that make it not function very well or at all. So how do you know that your computer might be infected with spyware or malware? Here are a few signs:
- Pop Up Ads
- Slow Responsive PC
- Programs Failing
- Not able to get to the internet
- Slow computer startup times
Ways To Fix My Computer
There are a few other things to check when trying to fix my computer. Follow these steps precisely to see what you are dealing with.
1. Go to Start > Run (Search for Windows 7) and type MSCONFIG. Select the “Startup” tab and check to see if there are any programs listed that you know you do not need. If there are, then you should make sure they are unchecked so they do not load when you restart your system.
2. The #1 piece of FREE software that removes adware and spyware is Malwarebytes. Download, install, update and run a quick scan on your computer. Remove anything it finds. Malwarebytes is truly an awesome piece of software, and best of all it’s free.
3. Learn to utilize the System Restore function on your computer. You can find this utility by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. This utility will restore your computer’s system files back to the date you specify. So if your computer worked perfectly fine yesterday then feel free to restore it by using System Restore if it is not running right today. This tool works very well and is under-used.
Hardware And Software Drivers
Drivers can often be the source for many computer problems. Knowing how they work is critical to helping you fix my computer for free. It is critical that you are always keeping your computers drivers up to date. However, you do run into occasional problem where a certain driver update might not ‘sit too well’ with your system and could cause you problems. Again, this is where System Restore comes in very handy.
Let’s go over a few general guidelines for computer drivers.
- There are several ways to download the latest drivers for your computer. If you have an HP or Dell, their websites make it pretty easy to put in your computers serial number or service tag number and get a list of all of the current drivers for your system.
- You can also find updates for drivers by running Windows Updates. I often use this as a last resort.
- If this is something where you would rather have a piece of software that would do this for you, then you should be cautious because there is all kinds of software out there that is just plain junk. However, the one piece of software that actually does what it says is DriverScanner by Uniblue. Actually, all products by Uniblue are very reliable and I think they are the best at actually delivering what they say their software will.
Registry Cleaners For The Computer Registry
I was never much a believer that a cluttered computer registry would actually slow your computer down. But over the years, by tune has changed a bit on this.
The reason why, is that if you use a computer daily or very frequently for at least 2 years, it is going to be noticeably slower than when you first took it out of the box. The main reason for this is because just about everything you do on your computer have an effect on its registry. Think of the computer registry as the brains of the computer. It can get very unorganized and ‘cluttered’ over time.
There are a few pieces of software that do a pretty good job at helping with this. One of those pieces of software would be CCleaner. However, I would caution using this program. It is very powerful, and if not used correctly could screw up your computer.
A better option for cleaning out your computers’ registry is to use a reputable registry cleaner. Again, there are hundreds of pieces of software out there that do this, but I could probably count on one hand for the ones that actually work.
Again, I recommend Registry Booster by Uniblue. This software is around $30, but you do get what you pay for in my opinion. You can always get a refund if the software doesn’t live up to your standards.
Everything we have talked about up to this point will help the overall performance of your computer, but there are a few things you can do to really help boost a slow PC.
#1 Way To Fix My Slow Computer – Optimizing Computer Startup
Optimizing your computer startup is the absolute best way to speed up your slow computer. This works no matter how old or new your machine is.
The reason why this is so effective is because it not only makes your computer start faster, but it also eliminates programs that run in the background while your computer is turned on.
This is a process that can be done manually by using the MSCONFIG utility that Windows provides. This process is something that has become very easy for me to do over the years, but that is because I work with computers on a daily basis.
As mentioned earlier in this article, you can access MSCONFIG by going to:
Start > Run (Search for Windows 7) and type MSCONIFG and press Enter to start the System Configuration Utility. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck any programs that you do not feel need to be running or you do not use.
Each application listed in the startup tab is a process that runs in the background while your computer is turned on. Turning these applications off will free up memory and in return help your computer to run better. The main problem you will run into though, is not knowing which processes to disable.
Again, there are a million different pieces of software out there that will do this process for you and %99 of them do not actually work so be cautious about this.
I recommend SpeedUpMyPC by Uniblue. This software basically takes all of the thinking out of this whole process. Uniblue has a huge database of computer processes so they know which ones should or should not be running.
Using the steps in this article on a monthly basis will really help keep your computer running in peak performance. Learn to fix computer problems can be a very frustrating process, but with a little guidance, you can fix my PC for free in most cases.
