Starting with Windows Vista, Microsoft introduced a utility that is call Windows Startup Repair. This utility was also rolled over into Windows 7 as well. It takes the place of doing a Windows Repair which is what was used in Windows XP. The startup repair utility is meant to diagnose and automatically fix any problems that would prevent a computer from booting.

Steps To Run A Windows Startup Repair
- Make sure the Windows CD/DVD is in the drive
- Reboot the computer
- Press any key to boot from the CD/DVD when prompted
- Click Next at the Install Windows screen
- Click on Repair your computer
- You will see the System Recovery Options scan for your Windows installation
- Click Next once the OS install is highlighted
- Click on the first item in the list called Startup Repair
- Once complete, it will report if there were any problems detected and if they were automatically fixed
- Click Finish
