It takes the place of doing a Windows Repair which is what was used in Windows XP. The startup repair utility is meant to diagnose and automatically fix any problems that would prevent a computer from booting.

Steps To Run A Windows Startup Repair

  1. Make sure the Windows CD/DVD is in the drive
  2. Reboot the computer
  3. Press any key to boot from the CD/DVD when prompted
  4. Click Next at the Install Windows screen
  5. Click on Repair your computer
  6. You will see the System Recovery Options scan for your Windows installation
  7. Click Next once the OS install is highlighted
  8. Click on the first item in the list called Startup Repair
  9. Once complete, it will report if there were any problems detected and if they were automatically fixed
  10. Click Finish
